What Are You Looking For?
There are many kinds of training as far as dogs are concerned. It depends on what you're looking for, for you and your dog.
Training is a vague term. There are specifics involved. For example, there's obedience training, like "sit", "heel", "come", "no" or "stay".
Then there's training to deal with the dog's behavior. This will be helpful for you and your dog when it's around children, the elderly, other dogs, and also includes housetraining.
Training for activities such as hunting will require more in-depth knowledge. Sometimes, training can be interchanged, so what applies to obedience can certainly apply to something else and vice versa.
Getting A Good Trainer
This is an important aspect of training. A good trainer will be able to identify the needs of both you and your dog. After all, it's also about you, especially if you're the one who will be doing the bulk of the training.
The trainer observes you and your dog in 'action' before giving you advice and making recommendations. Your trainer is really training YOU to train your dog. Perhaps the trainer may spend time with you and your dog once a week.
You will be training your dog in short sessions on a daily basis. If you use special collars for training, remember to take it off and replace it with your dog's normal collar. Always make sure you're around to supervise when you use any special equipment.
Be Patient!
Remember, you need to be patient while you're training the dog. A dog is a dog, it's going to get distracted, it's going to be silly, it's going to walk away. They do as they please sometimes, because they just don't know any better. That's what makes them sooooo adorable!
So contact us with any questions at all and we'd love to help. And please feel free to drop us a line to share your success stories as well. We're already wagging our tails with anticipation!
