House Training Dog Tips
When you get a puppy or dog, you'll need to know some basic house training dog tips to help make your new friend's transition a smooth one. You'll also need to be patient, while offering lots of praise for good behavior.
Remember too to be enthusiastic and positive. The dog can pick up these vibes from you. There is nothing wrong in offering a little reward, whether it's a treat or a little toy. If you choose not to offer rewards, that's fine too. Lots of hugs and cuddles will do nicely.
Housebreaking A Puppy
Puppies tend to go more often. Expect 'accidents' to happen. You need to learn its schedule. However, there are tips that should help keep you on your toes as to when your puppy might want to go.
Puppies and dogs tend to go first thing in the morning. Also, you might want to take them out at night, before bedtime. In this respect, they are just like us.
Another time to look out for would be after its meal. When it's really young, you may feed your puppy small meals several times a day. You'll need to take him/her out as it's common for them to go after eating.
Get A Bell
Why not purchase a bell that you can hang on your door? You can get these at pet shops and they are very handy at teaching your puppy (or even a dog) to associate it with bathroom times.
Eventually, they'll learn that when they ring the bell, (yes, they will, and it's so cute!) they'll be let out to do their business. A bell is a great way of teaching them to ask you when they need to go out.
You can also teach it to go in a designated spot. You can either use newspapers or products like the "Wizdog." This is a great product which your dog will learn to use and cleaning up is done easily.
More Tips On House Training
Learn to use specific words and commands always. The dog will pick this up and eventually understand. Try to do a little bit every day. Keep sessions short and positive.
Initially, try not to have distractions. You can slowly add distractions deliberately if you wish, but when starting out, try to be alone with your dog.
You can learn to use training aids like clickers and the aforementioned bell. There are so many others for specific reasons. You can get some really good videos, books or DVDS on house training dog tips to help you help your dog.
And remember, have fun!
