Basic Dog Training
If you own a dog, you know that basic dog training is a must. The good news is that you don't have to teach your dog everything, and certainly not all at once. It really depends on what you want.
For example, you could train your dog for behavior issues; you could train it to do simple things like "sit", "paw", or "stay" or you could teach it some fun tricks!
Crate Training
Crate training is something you should do when you have a puppy, but it's never too late. Using a crate may be necessary if you are away for long periods and no one else can keep an eye on your puppy or dog.
This helps to keep your dog safe, the most important consideration. It can't go about and cause trouble or eat something it's not supposed to. You need to be patient during training. NEVER punish your dog by putting it in the crate.
Leash Training
Much of the initial leash training should really be done at home. Leash training is important because it helps to keep your dog under control and establish that you're in charge.
You can help to correct many behavioral issues with leash training. Again, patience is key. Your dog will eventually learn that pulling, trying to chase little animals or jumping up on little children (amongst other reasons) will not be tolerated.
Let's face it, to be safe, there should be control and the leash certainly provides this. It's an effective training tool, as simple as it is and it's probably one of the most important forms of basic training there is.
Behavioral Issues
Your dog may have behavioral issues that might cause you (and others!) to tear your hair out. Excessive barking is one of those things. Barking is natural, remember this, but if it's over the top, then step in and help your dog.
Try never to hit your dog for this, or any bad behavior. Instead, use your voice. In fact, you should get into the habit of using your voice, rather than your hand, or a rolled-up newspaper. There are humane bark collars that emit a spray to control barking.
Fun Stuff
You can also have some fun activities with your dog as part of basic dog training. You could teach it to look for a particular object by hiding it. You can also play hide and seek, always a fun activity!
You could teach it to jump through a hoop or find a treat under a cup. Make sure to have fun with your dog during basic dog training. The bond between you will grow stronger.
